The Christmas City of the North Parade kicks off the holiday season in Duluth this Friday, and on Saturday, November 23rd, the lights will be illuminated down at Bayfront Festival Park for the annual lighting of the Bentleyville Tour of Lights! This incredible light show is the largest in the Midwest and is celebrating its 10th year!
Bentleyville continues to expand adding the 128’ animated tree as the center piece of Bentleyville in 2010. In 2011 fresh displays were added like Dino Land, a small gift shop was built in the Family Center, additional lighted tunnels were added, heaters were incorporated into the Santa line, a new home was built for Mrs. Claus! You can enjoy a leisurely stroll throughout the light show and tunnels, while sipping some free hot chocolate and enjoying delicious snacks. And did I mention, this wonderful event is free!!
And if you are really in the mood, bring your ice skates and skate the rink located next to the warming house! This wonderful space is a great way to enjoy a Duluth winter evening. If you will be enjoying this year’s Fourth of July in Duluth but have not yet decided how to spend the holiday, look no further.
Duluth’s 29th annual Fourth Fest is returning once again to Bayfront Festival Park for a free Independence Day celebration featuring live music and of course, fireworks. Entertainment begins at 4:30 p.m., with musical guests Circuit Breakers, Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank, and Big Wave Dave & the Ripples all leading up to a performance by Nicholas David, a recent finalist on NBC’s “The Voice.”
What is being dubbed “Minnesota’s largest fireworks extravaganza” of the summer will begin just after 10 p.m. The display will be synchronized with music that can be heard on Duluth’s NU92 (92.1 FM).
And if you want to kick off the celebration a day earlier, Bayfront will be presenting a concert from 80s rock and roll tribute band Hairball July 3, complete with authentic makeup and costumes, a light show with pyrotechnics, and covers of some of the decade’s most influential artists. Tributes will include AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Guns N’ Roses, KISS, and many more.
While you’re down by the lake listening to great live music and watching the ships come in, don’t forget to stop by the great shops and restaurants in nearby Canal Park. Dining options include the Canal Park Brewing Company, Grandma’s Sports Garden and Grizzly’s Wood-fire Grill, just to name a few. But there are almost no bounds to the fantastic places to get a meal in Duluth.
We can’t think of a better way to spend a vacation and a Fourth of July than in the beautiful city of Duluth. Can you?
